Margaret Marie Long Fulton "Granny"

by DFH Inc. on 05/18/16

On October 8, 1922 the world received a loving soul, Margaret Marie Long Fulton "our Granny." Margaret accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. She lived her life in love and service. As her soul peacefully returned to be with the Creator on May 6, 2016, she was surrounded by her loving family at home.

Margaret was born to the late Walter and Euna Long of Morristown, TN. She was the middle child of seven children, five of whom preceded her in death. Pauline "Polly" Mills, Willard Long, Walter "June" Long, Sara Thompson, and Vantilene Tiny" Horton.

Growing up in Morristown, she attended Morristown College High School, where she met her husband, the late Samuel "Sam" Dockery Fulton. They married on October 5, 1940 and they were the adoring parents to their sons, the late Douglas and surviving son Alvin. Their union lasted for 65 years until parted by death.

Margaret was an extraordinary woman who had the gift of service to others. For 21 years, she served as a nursing assistant at University Hospitals, Cleveland Ohio. Those who were fortunate enough to be in her charge knew she would provide them with loving care from her heart. She was never too busy to hold a hand while providing care with a sense of dignity in her patients' time of need.

Granny was devoted to her family and friends. She and Sam enjoyed traveling and visiting loved ones. She was known for hosting family gatherings and holiday celebrations. Whether she was cooking in the kitchen or behind the wheel of her lilac Mustang GT, Granny always brought a little pizzazz to whatever she did.

Margaret is preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Dockery Fulton and their son, Douglas. She is survived by her loving son, Alvin and his wife Nadine. She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Sterling Fulton, Larry (Arlishea) Fulton and Stacy (Charles) Wells; great grandchildren, Ryan, Austin, Larry, Jr., Ashley, Chase and Taylor; her half sister, Mitzi Covington. She is also survived by her brothers-in-law, Cleophas (Harriet) Fulton, Albert Fulton, Charles Fulton; sisters-in-law, Joyce Sellers, Eleanor Fulton and Mae Long and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Granny, we are grateful for the years that we were blessed to be together and have you in our lives. Heaven has received another rose.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Dockery Funeral Home Inc. Chapel. Receiving of friends from 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Service to begin at 3:00 p.m. With Rev. Clifton Jackson and Elder Joseph Senter, Officiating. Burial at Rock Of Ages Cemetery.
