James L. “Bud” Senter, age 78, passed away peacefully early Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at his home.

Bud was a Veteran of the United States Army. He was an avid gospel music listener and singer in the 1950s and 1960s. His theme song was “Just A Closer Walk with Thee.” Bud was a member of the staff of Dockery Funeral Home, where he worked as a limousine driver until his health started to decline. He attended Toney’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Lowland also until his health declined.

He was preceded in death by his parents: James and Marie Treece Senter; one son: Rodney Senter; and three sisters: Lula Mae, Barbara Sue and Sharon.

He is survived by one sister: Martha Washington of Oakland, California; two sons: Randy Senter of Dallas, Texas and Spencer Senter of Florida; devoted cousin: Joseph (Edith) Senter; special friends: Walter and Peggy Dockery of Morristown; special brother-in-law: Joseph Mills of Jefferson City; other nephews, nieces and friends.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 27, 2016 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Dockery Funeral Home, with the funeral to follow at 7 p.m. Interment will be Monday, February 29, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. at East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, 2200 E Governor John Sevier Hwy, Knoxville.

The family would appreciate donations for funeral expenses in lieu of flowers.

I am so sorry for the loss of "Bud". He is remembered for his constant presence at Dockery's and was the limo driver for us for several family funerals over the years. Please accept my condolences for your loss. I am just now aware of his passing.
