Geneva Moore Guthrie

by DFH Inc. on 03/09/22

Geneva Moore Guthrie born May 11, 1937 to James B. Moore, Sr. and Clorena Ray Moore peacefully transitioned to her heavenly home February 28, 2022 with her husband Eddie and Grandson Dustin at her side at the age of 84.  She was born in Clinch, VA and the family relocated to Morristown, TN in 1943.  Geneva was preceded in death by her parents James and Clorena Moore, son Eddie Guthrie, Jr., Brother James B. Moore, Jr. Rosevelt & Julia Guthrie, William Guthrie & Eleanor (James) Richardson.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories her husband of 65 years Eddie R. Guthrie, Sr., son Billy Doug (Rhonda) Guthrie, Grandchildren Dustin Guthrie, Analecia Guthrie, Jabari Guthrie and Aminia Guthrie. Great grandchildren Zion Guthrie, Zaylee Guthrie, Sanaa Guthrie and Messiah Mobley. Brother Bill (Betty) Moore, Sister Olivia Goins, In-laws Edna (Joseph) Collins and James (Ida) Guthrie. Geneva loved to sew, make crafts, cook, and bake and would share anything she made with anyone.  She never met a stranger and always wore a beautiful smile and loved people and life.  Geneva loved children, any and everybody’s children.  One occasion she took her sisters kids home with her and refused to give them back for a few days.  She was a long time member of Bethel Baptist Church where she was saved and baptized at an early age.  She served as a deaconess, usher, chef and sang in the youth choir.

She attended Morristown College High School, cooked at day care centers, catered weddings, made wedding cakes and taught her nieces to cook.  She worked for numerous wonderful families in town and loved them all like they were her own and talked about them like they were her own. She will be sadly missed by family, friends and all who knew her well.  Rejoice with us for we have not suffered a loss.  You can’t lose something that you know where it is.  She is in heaven serving others right now because that is who she is a servant and an angel.

The family would like to thank Covenant Home Health Hospice as well as Olivia and Kim for the kind compassionate care they gave her in her final day.

It is with a sad heart we say farewell to a dear friend and sister. My heart hurts that I could not get over to see her before she passed. Prayers for family and church family during this difficult time.
